About Prenoa Jewellery
Prenoa is a company born from a life-long dream and determination to allow a creative hobby thrive as an ambitious and energetic business. At the core of the company ethos is a belief that beautiful items can be made from any material, old or new, tarnished or shining. With a love for colour, texture, light, a lot of hard work and creativity, wonderful things can be achieved to bring happiness to a lot of people.
Becky uses old imperial British and Commonwealth currency to create handcrafted designs with their own identity. Her jewellery is about a personal response to bits of history, creating a classic design around the found objects of her craft. Every coin has been on its own unique journey from cash registers to pockets, slot machines to purses and so the story of each little coin continues once it has been fashioned into a wearable or keepsake item hereafter.
What makes this company so unique is the adaptability and range of products it offers. All designed, curated and made personally by Becky (and that will never change). Such is Becky’s love and appreciation for the attachment people form to their jewellery, she started offering a jewellery repair service in 2012 and this has proved to be hugely successful. Whether it is a broken string of 1920’s pearls, a twisted chain or a snapped clasp, old treasures sat in jewellery boxes across the country can be redesigned and made wearable for their owners once again at Becky’s hand.
About The Designer
Becky Toughill started her life in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire UK. She now works from her studio in Stamford, Lincolnshire, UK.
Being creative is Becky’s passion. Since a young age she always drew, painted and sketched. After taking A Levels in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, she then trained in Graphic Design at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and later took a BA(Hons) in Textile Design at DeMontfort University in Leicester. Between her studies, Becky studied silver-smithing whilst working full time; thus her love for jewellery design was born. Now a Printmaking and Oil Painting tutor, Becky stocks nationwide to various boutiques and galleries, as well as making her own designs for the online marketplace. Becky has had her work showcased in galleries such as Chichele College Art Gallery in Higham Ferrers (Northampstonshire UK), The City Gallery in Leicester and also works with Peterborough Artists Open Studios.
Since starting in 2004, (first a fine art business with paintings and drawings, later turning into jewellery) Becky qualified as a teacher in 2009 and worked for four years teaching 11-19year olds in Art and Design. As Prenoa grew, she wanted more of a balance between both her passions, so now has the priviledge of teaching adults as well as making jewellery. The company has gained wonderful momentum over the last few years with local press releases and coverage establishing the company presence within its new geographical area and nationally. Online, Becky retails here on prenoa.co.uk as well as the US handmade marketplace Etsy, British modern craft site Folksy and the German based DaWanda.
